Hartl Sr., Albert J.
Albert J. Hartl Sr., 75, of Albia, formerly of Marion, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Monroe County Care Center in Albia after a short illness. Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Entombment, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Myrna; a daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Draeger of Roanoke, Texas; two sons, Albert Jr. (Michelle) and Richard, both of Marion; a sister, Virginia Steinbach of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a brother, Raymond of Marion. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer (Doug) Fishwild and Aylsha and Rashall Hartl; and nieces and nephews, Carla and John Hartl and Danny and Timothy Holmes.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Hartl and Erma Holmes.
Albert was born March 12, 1936, in Antigo, Wis., the son of John and Elsie (Fisher) Hartl. He married Myrna L. Matheny on Feb. 15, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. Albert was a machine operator at Quaker Oats for over 38 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of RWDSU Local 110, the Berlin U.S. Military Veterans Association and proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. Albert was an avid fisherman and an extremely skilled woodworker.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to the Monroe County Hospice in Albert's name.
