Davis, Wilma A.
Wilma A. Davis, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Evergreen Estates III. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Don Hertges. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation also will be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by a son, William (Geri) Davis, and two daughters, Barb (Merlin) Nebendahl and Joan Golden, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Viola Klein of Manchester; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Wilma was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Earlville, the daughter of Thomas F. and Frances A. (Haas) Moorman. She married Ernest G. Davis on Feb. 18, 1936, in Manchester. She grew up in the Manchester and Earlville area, eventually moving to Cedar Rapids in 1954. Wilma was a housekeeper for many area families.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on holidays. Bingo, playing cards, and watching game shows were a few of her favorite pastimes.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Linda and Beverly; two grandsons, Rick Bekeris and Michael Davis; six brothers, Harold, Leo, Gerald, Vincent, Jerome and Thomas Jr.; and four sisters, Mary Malone, Lorene Quint, Lucile Becker and Dorothy Moorman.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
A special thank you to nurses and staff of Evergreen Estates III, including LuAnn, Tressa, Brandi, Tracey, Stephanie, Marilyn, Mary and Lois; and Hospice of Mercy, including Jennifer and Jamie, for the compassionate care they provided Wilma.
