John "Jack" Frederick McNeeley, 95, of Lowell, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Pleasant Manor Care Center, Mount Pleasant.
He was born in Lowell on Nov. 2, 1918, the son of
John Thomas and Caroline Hedlund McNeeley. On May 19, 1942, he married his wife, Pauline. She died Aug. 10, 1997. He was a 1937 graduate of Salem High School and of the Christian faith.
Mr. McNeeley was a lifelong farmer. He also was a trustee of Baltimore Township for over 50 years, sexton of the Baltimore Township Cemetery in Lowell and served on several agricultural boards, including the New London Coop.
He enjoyed driving through the countryside, walking around his farm and being with his family.
Mr. McNeeley is survived by one son, Dale (Lanora Shaffer-McNeeley) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Judy Pepmeyer of Burlington and Phyllis Totemeier of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, John Guthrie McNeeley of Cedar Rapids, Lindsey McNeeley-Moeller (Erich Moeller) of Dubuque, Randy Pepmeyer of Burlington and Dawn Totemeier of Mount Pleasant; great-grandchildren, Remmington and Rylee McNeeley of Cedar Rapids and Maxwell and Camilla McNeeley-Moeller of Dubuque; two sisters, Ruth Wagner of Burlington and Doris Garrels (Earl) of Danville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline; one son, Jerry, in infancy; one granddaughter, Carla Pepmeyer; sisters, Margaret Berry, Viola Lite, Ruby Messer and Velma Lyon; and brothers, Ronald and Wayne McNeeley.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 12, at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor David Mixon will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery. The family will greet friends for one hour before the service.
A memorial has been established to the Wounded Warriors Project.
