Gloede, Thomas 'Tom' W.
Thomas “Tom” W. Gloede, 82, of 632 Seventh Ave. NE, Oelwein, died Sept. 24, 2013, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with Father Paul McManus, Father Pat Geary and Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein, with a 7 p.m. rosary led by Father Dan Kirby. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, with full military rites led by Ross Reid Post 9.
Born June 18, 1931, in Sumner, Iowa, the son of George and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Kirby) Gloede, he married Dorothy Roth on April 14, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Navy. Tom was a salesman.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gloede of Oelwein; his children, Kathy (Leo) Reisner of Potosi, Wis., Bobbie Jo (Roger) Polark of Antioch, Ill., Becky (Gordon) Hackett of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Tom (Donna) Gloede Jr. of Oelwein, Lynn (Mike) Kane of Blue Grass, Iowa, Sandy Steil of Oelwein, Todd Gloede of Oelwein and Beth (Scott) Siebman of Wilmot, Wis.; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a sister, Francis (Lyle) Recker of Arlington, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judie Rogge; two sons -in-law, Bill Dudley and Dan Steil; twin grandsons, Matthew and Michael Steil; a great-grandson, Jared Reisner; and his parents, George and Bessie Gloede.
A memorial fund has been established in Tom's name.
