Ronald Ross Boyer, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Celebration of Life gathering for Ron will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel.
Ronald was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Iowa City, the son of Ralph and Pearl (Wadsworth) Boyer. He was a 1954 graduate of Newton High School. He received his BA degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Iowa in 1958 and his MA in 1976. After serving two years with the U.S. Army, he was united in marriage to Rae Jean Jacoby on May 27, 1961, in Fort Dodge. He worked as a correctional counselor and camp superintendent for the Men's Reformatory for four years, a caseworker for the State
Juvenile Home, seven years with Linn County Mental Health and 30 years of his life with Linn County Juvenile Court Services in various capacities, before his retirement in 1998. He subsequently worked part-time for a number of years at Meth-Wick Community Retirement.
Ron is survived by his wife, Rae Jean; son, Reid (Tami); daughter, Rochelle Boyer, all of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Keegan and Jess Boyer; one great-grandson, Owen Caldwell; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rex and Rollo.
