Brewer, Robert Lincoln
Robert Lincoln Brewer, 84, formerly of Hiawatha, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at Manor Care Health Services in Cedar Rapids. Private services will be held at a later date. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sandra Joy (Kramer) Brewer; stepfather, Raymond G. Anderson; three daughters, Susan (Jerry) Mervin of Waterloo, Tammy (Larry) Northup of Cedar Rapids, and Sara (Jason) Wolf of Des Moines; a sister, Dixie (Dale) Harvey; eight grandchildren, Robert John Lee, Courtney Brewer (fiance Jason Savage), Murphy Northup, Aaron (Nicole) Doubet, Patrick Doubet, Matthew Doubet, Olivia Wolf and Evan Wolf; two great-grandchildren, Madalyn Hobel and Robert John Lee II; and one great-great-grandson, Robert John Lee III.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lucille; and a son, Sanford (Sam) Brewer.
Robert lived a good life and loved his family. He was born Dec. 25, 1925, two miles south of Vinton, Iowa, the son of Cecil Brewer and Lucille Anderson. He married Sandra on April 1, 1952, in Edgewood. Together they made their life in Hiawatha for the past 53 years.
Robert served his country honorable as a United States Marine during World War II. He had been employed by Cherry Burrell Manufacturing, was a Hiawatha garbage man for many years, and retired from the City of Cedar Rapids Water Pollution Control Plant.
Robert's life was full of numerous stories and adventures. One of his most memorable was the time he drove his father from Vinton, Iowa, to Oklahoma during a winter ice storm, on the back of his motorcycle for his dad to see his sick mother.
