Martinez, Louis Nunez
Louis Nunez Martinez, 88, son of Narcissa and Genaro Martinez, was born July 13, 1921 in Cedar Rapids. He went home to the Lord on April 1, 2010. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church by The Reverend Thomas McDermott. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery follows the Mass and luncheon on Thursday.
He is survived by his daughters Keveta Kay Andersen (Nicaragua) and Reveille Rae (Cedar Rapids); one granddaughter, Heather Ruth Andersen (Redding, Calif.); and many special cousins, nieces and nephews. He also has many special friends in the Hispanic community who meant so much to him. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma “Bernie”, his parents, several brothers and sisters, his godparents (Merced and Mary Saldana) and their children (Phillip Saldana and Francis Saldana).
Louie worked at Iowa Steel & Iron Works as a welder and assembler for over 40 years and part-time at Iowa Manufacturing. He was an avid sports fan and actively participated in basketball, baseball, bowling and horseshoes. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Los Amigos Club, Eagles Club and was an usher at St. Ludmila Church. Louie loved dancing, playing cards with friends, tinkering in the garage and riding his lawn mower.
He will always be remembered for his gentle spirit and beautiful smile, He was a faithful husband and good dad.
