Martinez, Norma 'Bernie' Mohr
Norma “Bernie” Mohr Martinez, 84, daughter of Sidney P. and Rose Barnes Mohr, was born July 28, 1925, in Hartford Township. She went home to the Lord on Sept. 17, 2009. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, by the Rev. Thomas McDermott. Visitation is today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Louie; two daughters, Keveta Kay Andersen (Nicaragua) and Reveille Rae Martinez (Cedar Rapids); one granddaughter, Heather Andersen (Redding, Calif.); one sister, Nola Dodson (Clearwater, Fla.); and many special nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister (Lois Edwards) and two brothers (Vernal and Duane).
Her long work history included working at Hunter's and Richter's bakery, bartending at the VFW and Eagles Club, security at the Cedar Rapids airport and baker/manager for 27 years in the CR Community school system.
She was an avid sports fan and actively participated in basketball, baseball, volleyball, roller skating and bowling. She belonged to VFW Post 788 Auxiliary, Los Amigos Club, and was a lector and kolache maker at St. Ludmila's Church. Bernie loved gardening, cooking, and entertaining family and friends.
She will always be remembered for her infectious laugh and love of jokes.
