Dicken, Nial A.
Nial A. Dicken, 88, passed into the arms of his Lord, Jan. 19, 2010, after a short illness. He was a resident of Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. David Hohlman officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Nial was born in Dysart, Iowa, on Dec. 20, 1921. the son of Paul and Ruth Dicken of Dysart.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, LaVera and his parents.
Nial is survived by three stepchildren, Sandra (Eugene) Christensen of Elberon, David (Carleta) Holloway of Cedar Rapids, and Kay (Paul) Knight of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and cousins.
Nial worked at Brucemore for Howard Hall as a chauffer, houseman, butler, building superintendant and unofficial greeter for 24 years. retiring in December 1983. Nial served in the Navy during World War II was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 788, American Legion Post No. 298, Marion, and a member of the First Congregational Church of Christ.
Nial enjoyed bowling and golf with his family and friends for many years.
Memorials may be given in his name to the First Congregational Church or V.F.W. Post No. 788.
