Vahl, Annie E.
Annie E. Vahl, 93, of Walker, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, in her home. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Pastor Larry Daubs. Family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Violet Day of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Carol (David) Mallory of Walker; seven grandchildren, David Mallory Jr., Dustin Mallory, Rahmat Day, Chalyn Day, Abraham Day, Clayton Day and Chandra Day; and a great-grandchild, Tobin Day.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Helbig and Raymond Vahl; two brothers, Harold and Alfred Griess; and a sister, Louise Griess.
Annie was born Aug. 10, 1919, the daughter of William and Mary (Schoenfelder) Griess, in West Amana, Iowa. On Dec. 31, 1955, she was united in marriage to Melvin Helbig. He passed away June 11, 1992. Annie later married Raymond Vahl on Oct. 9, 1993, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Annie most recently attended Victory Baptist Church in Center Point.
