Iowa City Park amusement rides open Saturday

IOWA CITY - Iowa City Parks and Recreation opens the amusement rides in City Park on Saturday.
Park rides are open from 1 to 7 p.m. daily through Sunday, Aug. 20. After that, rides are open from 1-6 p.m. on weekends only through Sunday, Sept. 24.
Cost is $1 per ride or $8 for a 10-ride punch card.
In celebration of the 65th anniversary of the rides, several special events are planned throughout the summer. Here are some details:
- Memorial Day - On Monday, those who purchase a 10-ride pass get two rides at no additional cost.
- June 21 - In honor of the first day of summer, those who take a ride at City Park are to receive a free color-changing cup while supplies last.
- July 4 - Free rides all day in honor of the Fourth of July.
- July 21 - Old Fashioned Carnival from 5 to 7 p.m. Play carnival games and enjoy old fashioned snow cones and hot dogs served at the end of the evening. All participants receive one free ride.
- Aug. 14-18 - Lazy Dayz of Summer promotion. Swim at City Park pool from Aug. 14-18 and enjoy one free ride. Remember to pick up a ride card at the pool before you leave. Ride coupons are only valid during the week of the promotion, and are valid for one ride per person.
