Jan. 1, 2018 10:52 am
CEDAR RAPIDS- Cedar Rapids firefighters battled the cold elements Monday morning to put out a extensive garage fire.
At about 9 a.m. Monday, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to reports of a heavy fire with smoke in the garage at a home on the 100 block of Brentwood Dr. NE.
When firefighters arrived, they saw thick smoke in the garage of a single story home, extending into the attic, according to a news release.
With the help of Marion Fire Department, they were able to get control of the fire. Temperatures near -15 degrees Monday morning caused some ice build up at the scene.
There were two people in the home at the time of the fire, and the individuals received medical attention, according to the release.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
