Man falls asleep drunk in semi, obstructs traffic

A Virginia man was arrested in connection to drunken driving Wednesday morning after he was found asleep at the wheel of a semi.

Iowa City Police were called to the intersection of Heinz Road and Scott Boulevard in Iowa City at 1:32 a.m. for a report of a semi obstructing traffic. Upon arrival, police found Vitaliy Mitityuk, 26, asleep at the wheel.

Police said Mitityuk was unresponsive to verbal confrontation from police initially and finally woke up after police had to shout at the man several times from the driver's side door. Police said Mitityuk smelled like alcohol and had slurred speech.

Mitityuk allegedly admitted to drinking beer “last night.” He had a blood alcohol content of .113 after consenting to a breath test at the police department.
