Stanford, Donald E.
Donald E. Stanford, 85, of Quasqueton, died Saturday morning, Oct. 22, 2011, at his home in Quasqueton. Donald donated his body to the University of Iowa for scientific research. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Union Church, Quasqueton, with military honors. The Rev. Kevin Jennings will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Iowa City. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Donald was born April 12, 1926, on a farm near Rowley, Iowa, in Buchanan County, the son of Sadie Alice (Kidd) and Clarence Howard Stanford. He graduated from Quasqueton High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. On Sept. 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to Bernadine M. Trebon in Independence. The family made their home in the Quasqueton area. He farmed with his father for several years. He was employed as a machinist with the Allis Chalmers Co. and later the P & H Co. in Cedar Rapids before his retirement. He was a member of the Union Church, Quasqueton American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and the OES and served as a hospice volunteer.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine M. Stanford; five children, Sandra (Cliff) Nelson, Timothy (Sheryl) Stanford and Valerie Stanford, all of Quasqueton, William Stanford of Independence and Beth (Tom) Driscoll of Rushford, Minn.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Kimball of Jesup and Maxine Schweitzer of Winthrop; and three brothers, Wayne Lyle Stanford of Cedar Rapids, John “Jack” Stanford of Quasqueton and Richard Stanford of Hiawatha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert and LaVerne Stanford.
