Knights of Columbus offer much support

This year, Discovery Living Inc., a local non-profit organization providing residential support to people with intellectual disabilities, will mark its 30th year serving people in Linn County. It was more than 30 years ago when four local Knights of Columbus Councils founded Discovery Living.
Having observed the significant impact the Knights have on our organization, I feel compelled to share a few details.
Eight members of the Knights of Columbus serve on the Discovery Living board of directors. Each year, several local KC councils donate hundreds of volunteer hours and give a portion of the proceeds from the Intellectual Disabilities (Tootsie Roll) Fund Drive to Discovery Living. Knights have donated motorized wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, artwork, professional services, furnishings, landscaping, supplies and labor for many projects that have benefited the people we serve.
Discovery Living is just one of the many organizations blessed by the efforts of the Knights. Camp Courageous, Special Olympics and numerous other fine organizations receive support.
Worldwide, KC members donated more than 10 million hours in 2010. Because the Knights often work behind the scenes, it is easy to lose sight of the ongoing impact they have on people all over the world. Given this, it is all the more important that we remember to thank our faithful friends.
