Weipert has experience, no ethics problems

“I think the Johnson County public is very sophisticated about looking at these type of issues.”
These are the words of Johnson County Auditor Tom Slockett, as quoted March 30 in local media regarding the ethics issues involving his office.
I have to agree with his assessment and that's why I'm supporting Travis Weipert for Johnson County auditor. Travis “gets it” when it comes to issues of voting rights and the ethical treatment of office staff and he has the accounting/auditing experience to do the job - check out his website at http://travisweipert.com/ to see for yourself.
Mr. Slockett certainly has accomplishments, but his alleged ethics problems call into question his fitness to continue in the job he's held for more than 30 years. As a publicly available example of a red flag, the email address at the Johnson County auditor's website (auditor@pobox.com) goes to a private email forwarding service and not to a Johnson County registered email address. Who has control over this address? Is this how open, transparent government operates?
It's time for a positive change.
