Elizabeth (Betty) M. Burde-Rexstad, 92, formerly of Clinton and Wyoming, Iowa, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at OSF St. Joseph, Bloomington, Ill., after a full life. Graveside family service will be in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa.
Betty was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Helen and Carl Burde. She graduated in 1941 from Clinton High School. She worked during World War II as a telephone operator in Davenport, Iowa. On Sept. 1, 1946, she married Almer G. Rexstad in Clinton. "Doc" preceded Betty in death in 2002.
Betty was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, the Progressive Club and the Wyoming Library board.
Betty was happiest cooking from scratch, surrounded by family. Her rhubarb pinwheel, lefse and corned beef gravy recipes were among her many kitchen favorites. Other hobbies included cheering on the Chicago Cubs, completing crossword puzzles and volunteering at the library.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn and husband Reynold Jurgersen; her daughter, Karen and husband Jerry Bersche, Bloomington, Ill.; her son, Eric Rexstad and wife Charisse, Scotland; three grandchildren, Aaron, Amy and Amber; four great-grandchildren, Emma Rose, Clara Sage, Isaac and Isaiah; and numerous stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant son, David.
