West, Adelaide 'Ann' Muchmore
Adelaide “Ann” Muchmore West, 67, of Anamosa, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Manor Care Health Services, Cedar Rapids, from cancer. Funeral services for Ann will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mount Vernon First Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Lori Wunder. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Ann will be buried in Rowley Cemetery, Rowley, after a light luncheon at the church.
Surviving Ann are her husband, Gary, Anamosa; and two sons, Greg (Stephanie), Cedar Rapids, and Doug (Michele), Iowa City; six grandchildren, Ammie, Zachary, Alyson, Jessica, Taylor and Austin; four stepgrandchildren, Sarah, Kate, Mathew and Drew; and brother, Robert (Diana) Muchmore, Rowley, and their children, Susan, Julie and Mark.
Ann was born Dec. 9, 1941, the daughter of Roy and Lucile Muchmore, in Independence. She grew up on the family farm near Rowley. Ann enjoyed the outdoors and crafts. After completing business school, she married Gary West on Aug. 4, 1963. In 1975, she and her family moved to an acreage north of Mount Vernon and moved to Anamosa in 1993.
Ann was a 34-year member of the Mount Vernon First Presbyterian Church and was an avid choir member. She served as an elder and on many committees, including the building committee which planned the recent expansion of the church. Last month she was able to see the fruition of its work.
Ann was a warm, loving individual, whose smile would light up a room. The twinkle in her eyes was seen most often in the presence of her children and grandchildren. She worked as a legal secretary for many years in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. She served dependably on the Mount Vernon Mustang Booster Club and rarely missed her boys' events.
Ann will be remembered for her integrity, passion, great faith and extraordinary strength.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ann's honor may be presented to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund or St. Luke's Hospice.
