Betty was born May 9, 1923, in Garrison, Iowa, to Charles Delos and Bertha Sarah (Primmer) Dixon. She graduated from high school in Vinton. On July 13, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ernest J.D. "Jake" Anderson in Alexandria, La. She was a homemaker for most of her life.
Betty was a member of New Disciples Church, formerly First Christian Church. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Red Cardinals. She was a very talented seamstress and took great joy in sewing clothing from shirts to wedding gowns, and quilting.
Her pleasures in life included sharing stories of her granddaughter and great-grandchildren's adventures and antics. Grandma Betty and granddaughter Ely shared a special bond that will always remain.
She found joy in tending to her vegetable garden, where her tomato plants were often bigger than her!
She loved the little things that life had to offer; from hugs and hellos to smiles and songs. Betty was a simple woman who asked for little and generously gave to family, friends and strangers.
She will be deeply missed.
Her surviving family includes her son, Ivan Anderson (Debra) of Ryan; granddaughter, Ely Whitaker (Stephan) of Cleveland, Ohio; four great-grand-children, Anderson, Magdalene and twins Bennet and Vey Whitaker; sister, LaVerne Abernathy of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jake, in 2001; sister, "Pokey" Hoeck; and brothers, Clifford and Jesse Dixon.
