Kurrelmeyer, Duane Henry
Duane Henry Kurrelmeyer passed away peacefully on Nov. 23, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on April 19, 1925, and was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Anna and Henry Kurrelmeyer.
Duane graduated from Colesburg, Iowa, High School and then Coe College. In 1947 he married Doris Steinfadt, his high school love, and they were married 65 years. They had two daughters.
Duane was proud of the three years he served in the Navy during World War II. Duane started work at Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company in 1948 and was there 38 years. He loved sports, especially the Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. Duane was thrilled to be asked to go on the World War II Honor Flight in April of this year. He was accompanied by his son-in-law, Mark.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Pam (Jack) Douda and Kim (Mark) Schleisman; two granddaughters, Kim (Bill) Propst and Kelley (Duane) Yock; one grandson, Andrew Schleisman; and three great-grandchildren, Chase Propst, and Jakob and Max Yock.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with services being held Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harlan Gillespie and the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiating. Inurnment will take place at St. Paul's United Methodist Church Columbarium.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Cottage Grove Place for their kindness and their excellent loving care.
Memorials may be directed to Cottage Grove Place or to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
