KIM LYLE
Iowa City
Kim William Lyle, 61, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully at his home June 11, 2014. In honor of Kim's wishes, no formal services will take place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
Kim was born June 28, 1952. He grew up on a farm in the small town of Haverhill, Iowa. He worked hard to put himself through school, first earning a bachelor's degree at the University of Northern Iowa, then earning an M.D. at the University of Iowa. After graduating from medical school, he became a well respected psychiatrist, specializing in child psychiatry.
He was seldom without a mischievous smile and a twinkle in his blue eyes. His wit was lightning fast; he had an encyclopedic knowledge of jokes and was a master of puns. He could make up a rhyming song on the spot. He was an audiophile who enjoyed fixing and installing speakers for his friends and family. He loved to sing Karaoke and could do a wicked David Bowie. A voracious reader, he enjoyed reading science fiction, horror and comic books. He was an animal lover who strongly believed in rescuing pets. He rescued his three beloved standard poodles and cats.
Kim was a wonderful, compassionate and funny man and will be dearly missed by his family, friends and pets.
Survivors include his significant other, Janelle Graber of Iowa City; his mother, Alice Lyle of Marshalltown; a sister, Gail (Skip) Nichols of Palmyra, Mo.; a brother, Mark (Jana) Lyle of Haverhill; two nephews, Josh and William Nichols; and two nieces, Sara Pickett and Emily Ryherd. Kim also is survived by his one standard poodle, Chardonnay, and two cats, Kenny and Kitty T Cat.
Kim was preceded in death by his father, William John Lyle; and his animals, Ringo, Pookie, Chloe, Mr. Bunny, Phred, and most recently, Beau.
