Unemployment claims require more workers

Last summer my job was outsourced. Fortunately, I was able to find another job quickly but, there was still a period of time when I wasn't getting a paycheck. I applied for unemployment and was approved. That was the easy part, and that was four months ago. I have been waiting that long to receive my check.
Actually, I have been waiting that long for someone from the unemployment office to even return my phone calls, let alone answer some questions.
I've been told that the unemployment office is backed up and short-staffed. I have been told that there has been a hiring freeze but since the number of people seeking assistance still increases, there is a backlog.
Well, here's a novel idea: Employ more people at Iowa Works. This way the unemployment numbers will go down, and more people in Linn County will be served. Even if the jobs are only temporary, it will be a paycheck and provide work experience.
At least while I wait, I have my family around me to support me. However, others are out there struggling on their own. What about them? Until Iowa Works comes up with a better system, I will consider it Iowa Broken.
