Go Green with AmeriCorps: Free home energy assessments available

The Cedar Rapids Green Iowa team, hosted by the Affordable Housing Network, performs FREE home energy assessments for anyone that would like to discover how energy efficient their home is. After the energy assessment is completed, the team will perform a weatherization, followed by an evaluation. Weatherization can save individuals $50 - $350 each year! In 2012 the Affordable Housing Network partnered with AmeriCorps to host the Green Iowa Cedar Rapids team. In addition to their weatherization work throughout the community, Green Iowa provides assistance with the TotalChild Wellington Heights Initiative. They also work with children in the Four Oaks Cedar Valley Achievement Academy to educate them about energy efficiency.

Green Iowa AmeriCorps is based out of the University of Northern Iowa's Center for Energy and Environmental Education. The group was founded in 2009 to address conservation and sustainable usage of energy resources in several Iowa communities as they struggled to rebuild from the devastating floods of 2008. Green Iowa's mission is to help make Iowans more energy efficient through low impact home weatherization, energy education, and community outreach. Green Iowa has locations in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Decorah.
