The mood wasn't chatty.
They have no regrets. They have a shot at a BCS bowl. I wouldn't want to be Minnesota.
Kirk Ferentz part I
Yes, first question was about Iowa's last series before the overtime. Iowa had first down at its 33 with 52 seconds left and one timeout. After a handoff to Adam Robinson, Iowa took a delay of game penalty and ran out the clock to go to overtime. Ferentz said he based the decision on the punt return. It didn't set up good enough field position in his opinion.
The Iowa quarterback said he wished he had a few throws back, but felt confident. He understood the playcalling on Iowa's last drive of regulation. He went through the overtime series, which ended with a 6-yard loss on a handoff to Adam Robinson, a 10-yard sack and an interception on fourth-and-26 from the 41.
Iowa WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos talks about the kick return for the TD, which brought Iowa back from the dead with 10:56 left in the fourth quarter. He also talks about the effort and preparation of freshman quarterback James Vandenberg. He references a certain body part that signifies guts but isn't guts. By the way, that was Iowa first kick return for a score in 242 kicks.
The Iowa defensive end had 12 tackles, a sack and three tackles for loss against the Buckeyes. For everything that was written -- by me -- about OSU's DEs in pregame, Clayborn was the best DE on the field Saturday.
The Iowa running back didn't know until the second half that he was Iowa's RB for the day against the No. 10 Buckeyes. He finished with 74 yards on 20 carries. Remember, he's just three weeks from a high-ankle sprain. He says here he was 85 to 90 percent healthy. True freshman running back Brandon Wegher was ruled out of the game during warmups because of a rib injury.
No regrets, the Iowa linebacker said after the Hawkeyes lost 27-24 in overtime at Ohio State. He said everyone poured their guts out in the loss. He believes the Hawkeyes are a BCS team. They've got to beat Minnesota and still be in the BCS top 14 to be considered. Iowa AD Gary Barta told me after the game that bowl talk is a "waste of time" right now.
Iowa's Adam Robinson (32) loses his helmet as he is hit by Ohio State's Anderson Russell (21) and Ross Homan (51) during the second half of their game Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Iowa lost the game by a score of 27 to 24 in overtime. (Brian Ray/The Gazette)
