Jenkins, Courtney 'CJ' LeVell
Courtney “CJ” LeVell Jenkins, 27, of 930 E Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, in Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at River of Life Ministries, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Cymaron Dawson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his parents; siblings, Schuranda Pittmon of Cedar Rapids, Antoine (Mimi) Jenkins of Cedar Rapids, and CaLisha (Bruce) Jenkins-Paige of Hiawatha; his maternal grandmother, Ruby Walker of St. Louis; nieces and nephews, Creighton, Mekhia, Melique, Ezekiel, Jacob, Kaitlin, Bruce III “Tra,” Ziyonna and Paige; cousins, aunts, uncles, god parents and friends; and his companion dog, Eboni.
CJ was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jesse James Walker Sr.; and his paternal grandparents, James and Vera Marsh.
Born Sept. 24, 1984, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, CJ was the son of Willie and Marylin (Walker) Jenkins. He graduated from Jefferson High School and earned an AA degree from Kirkwood Community College. He served in the National Guard. CJ worked for Nordstrom and was a bus driver for the Cedar Rapids Schools.
CJ was class vice president at Jefferson, played the saxophone in Jazz Band, Marching Band and Show Choir. He participated in track, football, basketball and was a church drummer. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his Bike Family.
