This weekend looks to be a great weekend to look at fall foliage.
Northeast Iowa: The fall colors are about at their peak now. The nice weather is supposed to continue for the next few days. The oaks are changing. Maples have dropped their leaves but there is still a lot of color out there.
Southeast Iowa: There are yellows popping up everywhere due to green ash, sugar maple, elm, and silver maple. Browns are showing from the hickories starting to go into dormancy. Red oaks and red maples are starting to show red. The landscape also shows some hints of purple, mostly from white ash and some white oak. Urban ornamental trees and shrubs are showing very bright colors that you cannot get from the forested landscape. This coming weekend (October 9-10) will likely show the best colors we have seen in several years. The weekend of October 23-24 should be good too.

Green and orange leaves decorate tree limbs Monday at Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids. Stressed trees in urban areas are showing early signs of fall color, but most trees are on track for a good year.
