Epperson, Freida E.

Frieda E. Epperson, 96, of the Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at the care center on after a long illness. Private family services will be held Dec. 29 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Jerry of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Eleanor McElree of Marion, Helen Kopecky of Cedar Rapids, and Elizabeth Boltz of Waterloo; and a sister, Elsie Wilson of Vinton.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Viola Vaupel of Vinton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and one sister.

Frieda was born on March 21, 1913, in Kuchen, Germany, the daughter of Justus and Gertrude Umbach Vaupel. She married John R. Epperson on Aug. 12, 1931, in Dixon, Ill. He died in 1994. Frieda worked at New Process Laundry and retired from there after many years of service. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

The family would like to thank the staffs at the Keystone Nursing Care Center and Mercy Hospice for the loving care given to Frieda.
