C.J. Beathard rolled out and found Riley McCarron for a go-ahead 25-yard touchdown pass with 2:14 to play and Iowa scored 21 unanswered points to defeat Iowa State 31-17 Saturday in the annual Cy-Hawk game.
"When it came out of my hand I thought it felt good and it was a great catch," Beathard said in an on-field interview with Fox after the game. "What a way to make your first touchdown catch."

The win comes a day after former Hawkeye and all-Big Ten safety Tyler Sash's funeral. Sash was found dead Tuesday in Oskaloosa, and Iowa paid tribute to him by replacing the Tigerhawk logo with his No. 9 on one side of their helmets.
Receiver Jerminic Smith, who typically wears No. 9, wore No. 6, and the Hawkeyes set up a special locker with the No. 9 jersey.

Receiver VandeBerg was there to pick it up and tumble into the end zone to tie the game with 10:05 left in the third.

ISU's second touchdown came only 2:12 after Beathard capped a 93-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tevaun Smith that tied the game at 10.
Beathard had to leap out of the end zone to avoid a safety on a Dale Pierson sack at the beginning of the drive, then scrambled for a 44-yard gain that put the Hawkeyes in business.
Iowa State had punched Iowa in the mouth with a six-play, 75-yard drive in 1:50, taking a 10-3 lead on Sam Richardson's 11-yard pass to Quenton Bundrage.
The Cyclones were out-gaining Iowa 169-51 midway through the second quarter and appeared to be driving after an eight-yard first-down catch from Allen Lazard near midfield.
But a video review changed the spot of the ball and the Cyclones chose to punt, giving Iowa the ball back.
Field goals from Koehn and Iowa State's Cole Netten left the game tied 3-3 after one quarter.
Koehn's 49-yard field goal gave Iowa the first points of the game with 5:44 remaining in the first before Netten answered on the next drive.
