Pins, Catherine F.
Catherine F. Pins, 96, of 103 Second Ave. SW, Farley, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at 4:30 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Friends and relatives of Catherine may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a CDA rosary will be held at 3 p.m. and a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Services for Catherine will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain and the Rev. John Ptacek officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley.
Catherine was born Feb. 26, 1915, in Farley, Iowa, daughter of Chris J. and Mary (Schmitt) Hoefer. She was a 1933 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School in Farley. On Sept. 18, 1941, she was united in marriage to Clarence Pins at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley. She was an ordinary woman who did extraordinary things. In her humility there was greatness. She had a kind and pure heart which saw the goodness in all those she knew and met.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Presentation Court 1460. Catherine was a volunteer for many years, working with special needs children.
She is survived by four children, Ron Pins of Des Moines, Dianne Pins of West Des Moines, Carolyn Schlichte of Marion and Jerry (Julie) Pins of Farley; 11 grandchildren, Mel Pins, Sarah Foreman, Emily Blom, Laurie Staudenmaier, Renee Morabito, April Hamilton, Greg Schlichte, Brad Schlichte, Tim Schlichte, Spencer Pins and Carter Pins; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Giovnna, Spencer Morabito and Hope Staudenmaier; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bill and Marilyn Beyer of Epworth, Donna Goerdt of Dyersville, Fred Goedken of New Vienna, Aileen Pins of Dubuque and Marcille Pins of Cascade.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Pins on June 15, 2010; one granddaughter, Ashley Pins on Dec. 26, 2007; three brothers, Cletus, Lawrence and Frank Hoefer; three sisters, Marcella Muller, Mildred Bell and Rosella Gotto; brothers-in-laws, William Pins and Lavern Pins; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Goedken.
