Bouska, Lucy M.

Lucy M. Bouska, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, surrounded by her family. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Interment: St. John's Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Lucy was born in Little Turkey, on Dec. 30, 1921, to Stan and Lucy Dostal. She married Leo Bouska there on Oct. 20, 1941. She did day care in her home for many years and treated the children like her own. She also worked at Killian's Department Store for 15 years.

Her family who will cherish her memory are her sons, Ron and Steve Bouska; daughter, Bonnie (Don) Freeberg; grandchildren, Debbie Hoffman and Brian (Traci) Freeberg; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Meagan and Caitlyn Hoffman and Cody and Jenna Freeberg, all of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Wes (Vernelle) Dostal of Decorah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; daughter, Gerri; parents; and brothers, Stan, Joe, Frank and Louis Dostal.

She enjoyed her family, tending her flowers, crocheting, crossword puzzles and following the Kernels, Hawkeyes and the Cubs. She loved watching birds; especially cardinals.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and grammy. She taught us by her quiet, kind example and her deep faith. She will be forever loved and missed by her family and those who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Mercy, the Hospice House of Mercy and those at Heritage Nursing & Rehab for their wonderful care.
