Coy, Edith V.
Edith V. Coy, 98, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids. Public graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg, with the Rev. Cheryl McCullough officiating. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Edith was born July 4, 1912, in Bovina, Colo., to Abner B. and Edna (Freeman) Carberry. She was the oldest of 11 children. She received her rural Teacher Certification from Iowa State University on May 30, 1932. On Feb. 22, 1943, Edith married the love of her life, Lloyd Coy. They were happily married for 61 years.
Edith gave 30 years of her life to the Presbyterian Church in Shellsburg, where she taught Sunday school and Bible classes. She was a kind, caring and giving individual. “Thank You for stopping by” was one of Edith's famous sayings.
Edith will be deeply missed by her three brothers, Wayne (Carol) Carberry and Paul (Sue) Carberry, both of Arizona, and Howard (Sharon) Carberry of Texas; and her dear friends, Charlene and Laura.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; sisters, Lois and Esther Carberry; and her brothers, Cecil, Marion, Arthur, Merle and Raymond.
