A Cedar Rapids woman is accused of cutting her boyfriend in the face with a knife during a fight that started in bed.
Dartha J. Pledge, 38, of Cedar Rapids, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon after the fight early Sunday morning. Police learned of the altercation around 6 a.m. Sunday when Russell Nelson, 51, of Cedar Rapids, arrived at the St. Luke's Hospital emergency room.
Nelson told police he got into bed with Pledge that morning at 1347 F Ave. NW, and she became upset with him. Nelson claimed Pledge came after him with a knife during the argument, according to the police report.
Police said Nelson suffered lacerations to the top of his forehead and his nose. Pledge left the house after the fight, and Nelson had a family member take him to the hospital. He was treated and released.
Officers arrested Pledge around 1:30 p.m. when she returned to the house to collect some of her property. She admitted a knife was involved in the fight, police said. She was transported to the Linn County Jail but has since been released.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said investigators never found the knife that was used in the assault, but a paring knife and a butcher knife were missing from the kitchen.
