Letter: Reader shares thoughts on column

Shook my head in dismay when Lynda Waddington's Feb. 25 column 'Trump puts the ‘bully' in the bully pulpit” was published.

Unfortunately, she perpetuates the misconception that 'Bully Pulpit” means a forum which threatens or aggressively dominates others. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Bully Pulpit was a term used by President Theodore Roosevelt. It meant a platform from which to positively advocate for an agenda. The term 'bully” used in that context dates back to the time of President Abraham Lincoln and folks said 'bully” or 'bully for you” to signify something superb or wonderful.

From reading the article, I don't think Waddington intended to say President Trump's actions were 'superb” or 'wonderful.” Instead she intended exactly the opposite. Ironically, she was using her forum to aggressively dominate others with whom she disagrees.
