Iowa City School District bond passes clearly after strong voter turnout
Voters approved the largest school bond ever put to Iowa voters, $191.5 million, on Tuesday night, according to unofficial final results that will be certified by the auditor later in the week.
The massive school bond will be used for facilities projects in the Iowa City Community School District, the fifth-largest district in the state. An unusually high 16,700 voters turned out to vote in the Iowa City School District according to the Johnson County Auditor Travis Weipert. Of these, 10,814 (65 percent) voted yes for the bond and 5,812 (35 percent) voted no. The bond required a super majority of 60 percent of voters to pass.
