Levy, Ethel Mae
Ethel Mae Levy, 63, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Wendell Beets presiding. Burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Ethel was born Oct. 1, 1948, in Louise, Miss., the daughter of Robert L. and Elizabeth E. (Johnson) Levy Sr. She graduated from Washington High School in 1966. Ethel married Willie Jones and was later divorced. She worked at Quaker Oats for over 36 years, retiring July 1, 2011.
Ethel enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, participating in the youth choir.
Ethel is survived by her daughters, Petrina Levy of Cedar Rapids and Kimberly Levy of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Demetrius, Ralonda and Tonia; her brothers, Robert Levy Jr. and James Levy, both of Cedar Rapids, and John (Carol) Levy Sr. of St. Paul, Minn.; her sisters, Lillie B. Washington and Doris Poole, both of Cedar Rapids, Margaree Levy of St. Paul, Minn., Norain Jamison of Louise, Miss., and Blanchie (Roy Sr.) Broomfield of Belzoni, Miss. as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Levy Sr.; brothers, Albert Levy, Oscar Levy and J.B. Levy; sister, Edna Mae Stamps; and a nephew, Roy Broomfield Jr.
