Support the Scleroderma Research and Awareness Act
The Gazette Opinion Staff

June is Scleroderma Month. What is scleroderma? It is a chronic and often progressive auto immune disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissue. It literally means “hard skin” that causes thickening or tightening of the skin as well as serious damage to internal organs such as lungs, heart, kidneys, esophagus and stomach. It is more common in women than men. There is no cure.
My daughter, Amber Clefisch, has had scleroderma since 2004. She and others with scleroderma would love to get your help and support. Please co-sponsor bills S. 649 and H. R. 1672 for the Scleroderma Research and Awareness Act.
