Georgia Kopecky, 101, of Marion, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cath-olic Church, Hiawatha, by the Rev. Mark Ressler. Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, 1000 13th St., Marion. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Bernita and husband Arlin Ginsburg of Williamsburg, Va.; son, Jon and wife Sharyl Kopecky of Marion; two grand-daughters, Stacey (Ron) Reints of Cedar Falls and Kellie Kopecky of Ames; three great-grandchildren, Keegan, Hanna and Reece Reints; nephew, Roger Pardun of Sioux City; and niece, Pat Kolarik of Kansas City, Kan.
Georgia was born Oct. 30, 1912, in rural Ely, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Isabel (Hovorka) Hartl. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1929 and went on to graduate from Mount Mercy Junior College. She taught school for four years at Lime Creek School, a one-room school near Brandon, before getting married to Joseph Kopecky on June 6, 1935.
Georgia's greatest pride was her garden and flower beds and watching over her farm animals.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Georgia was a caring wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Agnes.
