Kaiser, Joanne Elizabeth
Joanne Elizabeth Kaiser, 80, of Van Horne, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Garrison United Methodist Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Lanette Sue Van and the Rev. Jan Ziskovsky officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone. Memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice or The American Cancer Society.
She was born July 1, 1930, at Cedar Rapids, to Wilson E. and Ruth H. (Robb) Morrow and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton.
On Nov. 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Louis J. Kaiser at Pratt Creek Presbyterian Church near Vinton.
A devoted farm wife and mother of six children, Joanne was a member of the Garrison United Methodist Church over 60 years, where she served as president of the U.M.W. several times. She was a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary as a 50-year member of the Garrison Unit and as a 12-year member of the Keystone Unit. In the many years she devoted to the auxiliary, she held offices as secretary, historian, vice-president and president. She also served as Benton County Auxiliary president for two years, as secretary twice and as 3rd District president for one year. She was chaplain of the Iowa Department Auxiliary, a junior chairman, Community Service, Americanism and several other positions. At the National Convention, Joanne served as a page. In addition, Joanne found time to be a hospice volunteer for 10 years, to participate and donate to the Cancer Society's Relay For Life and to enjoy membership in the Floralia Garden Club, where she served as president in 1987. Joanne was admired for her gift of writing beautiful poems for family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Louis of Van Horne; her children, Cindee (David) Facion of Cedar Rapids, Michael L. (Lorie) Kaiser of Keystone, LouAnn K. (David) Wodstrchill of Cedar Rapids, Larry W. (Sandra) Kaiser of Van Horne, Gary D. (Amy) Kaiser of Keystone and Tom (Julie) Kaiser of Keystone; her grandchildren, Kim (Terry) Robbins, Jodee Palas-Barrio, Jackie (Ben) Seeck, Shane (Michelle) Kaiser, Zach (Alissa) Kaiser, Ryan Wodstrchill, Davey Wodstrchill, April (Chad) Upah, Adam (Heather) Kaiser, Aric (Lyndsey) Kaiser, Alison (Glenn) Pauley, Andrea (Eric) Townsley, Valerie (Tyler) Dingel and Jordan and Justin Kaiser; her great-grandchildren, Lexee Robbins, Bella and Alica Barrio, Hunter, Brody and Karsyn Semelroth, Sophia and Brynnlee Seeck, Ashley and Tyler Steele, Mikaela, Zoey, Isabelle and Logan Upah, Ethan, Laurynn and Kylie Kaiser, Nolan and Mason Pauley, Emma and Kaiser Townsley and Addalynne Dingel; and her sister, Betty (Marion) Keefer of Cedar Rapids.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wilson Robb Morrow; and her sister-in-law, Alice (Hummel) Morrow.
