Poduska, Dorothy Ann
Dorothy Ann Poduska, 82, of Solon, died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications following surgery. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, where visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Solon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Dorothy Poduska Memorial Fund.
Dorothy was born June 8, 1927. near Mount Vernon, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Otillie Pavelka Reyhons. She attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse in Bertram Township and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1945. She was united in marriage to Leonard Poduska on Oct. 8, 1946, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Solon.
Dorothy enjoyed being a farm wife and homemaker on the rural Solon family farm. She enjoyed cooking and gardening and took great pride in being very active in her community. Dorothy was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, the Altar and Rosary Society and The National Catholic Society of Foresters.
She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy attended most of their sporting events, musicals and birthday activities.
Dorothy is survived by five children, Margaret (Joe) Bena of Mount Vernon, Mary (Jim) Cole of West Liberty, Dr. Lawrence (Judy) Poduska of Lisbon, Diane Klinsky of Ely and Joan (Mark) Blindt of Smithshire, Ill.; her daughter-in-law, Beverly Poduska of Solon; 16 grandchildren, Marjorie Bena, Jolene (Pete) Gansen, Robert Cole, Randall Cole, Beth (Gene) Slesicki, Dr. Stephen Poduska, Annette (Jared) Bartel, Nicholas Poduska, Bernadette Poduska, Cheryl (Aaron) Kuhlman, Dennis (Amy) Klinsky, Lisa (Nathan) Knutson, LeAnn (Tim) Neubauer, Charlene (Matt) Tennis, Stephanie Blindt and Ellen Blindt; seven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ruth Hinz of Anamosa, Marie (Leo) Beuter of Solon and Leona (Bill Fairo) Smith of Mount Vernon; her sister-in-law, Louise Poduska of Mechanicsville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard in 2001; her son, Daniel in 2005; and her son-in-law, Kenneth Klinsky in 2006.
