A new youth baseball program is giving Cedar Rapids kids a chance to play baseball for free this summer.
Seventy-five second and third graders at Taylor, Wilson, Harrison, Van Buren and Cleveland schools are participating in the league, which is sponsored by Minor League Baseball, the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Perfect Game USA, the Rawlings Sporting Goods company and the Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department.
Shirts and hats were supplied by Minor League Baseball Charities, and Rawlings donated pants, gloves, bats and helmets.
Games will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in June and July at Jones Park in southwest Cedar Rapids.
