Repair streets with traffic camera revenue

Congratulations, residents of Iowa City! You have forced your city to reconsider the use of traffic cameras. It is too bad the residents of Cedar Rapids do not have that much backbone.
A few weeks ago, a person from out of town wrote a letter stating that he was sorry he had sped in Cedar Rapids and he had paid his fine, but was not considering opening his business in Cedar Rapids (“‘Big Brother' watching costs C.R. business,” April 10 by Jack Hollingsworth Jr.).
This letter was rebutted by people of this town saying that if he didn't want to be fined, he shouldn't speed. True, but missing the point. Almost every day as I travel Interstate 380, people rapidly pass me and then slam on their brakes for the camera, and then speed up again. The statistics lie.
Maybe I would feel better if this large amount of money taken in was going to repair our awful street system. There doesn't appear to be much accountability for this money.
