Cox, Nellie A.
Nellie A. Cox, 83, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
Nellie Alline Swartz was born May 28, 1928, in Iowa City, the daughter of Glen and Isabelle (Head) Swartz. She attended Iowa City schools, graduating with the class of 1947 from City High School. She was united in marriage to Clifford Glenn Cox on July 24, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. Nellie was a lifetime resident of Iowa City and a member of the Iowa City Bowling League for many years and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed and was very gifted in sewing, crocheting, and knitting. Nellie loved doing word search puzzles, watching games shows like Jeopardy, and spending time with family and friends.
Her family includes sisters-in-law, Janet Swartz of New Jersey, June Cox of Iowa City and Shirley Yerington of Muscatine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cliff; and a brother.
Nellie's family would like to thank Dr. Clamon and all the staff at Briarwood for their very compassionate quality care of Nellie; you were so good to her!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Nellie's memory to Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
