IOWA CITY - Leaders at Iowa's regent universities are proposing a base tuition increase of 5 percent next year for in-state undergraduate students, an amount that will be discussed Thursday during a Board of Regents meeting in Iowa City.
The regents office released the 2001-12 tuition and fee proposal this afternoon.
Tuition and fees combined would increase 4.7 percent at the University of Iowa, 7 percent at Iowa State University and 4.9 percent at the University of Northern Iowa for in-state undergraduates.
A 5 percent increase to base tuition would be higher than the projected increase to the Higher Education Price Index. The HEPI range, which measures expected inflation, is 2.2 percent to 4.0 percent for fiscal 2012.
