One Iowa City mobile home destroyed, another damaged in fire

An early morning fire has destroyed an Iowa City mobile home.

The fire started around 5 a.m. at the Forrest View Trailer Court lot #62, 1205 Laura Dr., fire officials said.

Iowa City Battalion Chief Brian Platz didn't immediately know how many people were inside the home when the fire started, but said everyone was able to escape safely.  Smoke and flames from the fire could be seen from Interstate 80, near the Dubuque Street exit.

Heat from the fire damaged two neighboring mobile homes.

Platz said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
