Walton, Alan E.

Alan E. Walton, 54, of Toddville, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, surrounded by his family after suffering a massive stroke on Wednesday. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 2, at Murdoch-Linwood Chapel, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, at 10 a.m., with Dr. Leonard Ranson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa.

Al was born Oct. 6, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from the Anamosa High School and upon graduation moved to Colorado and remained there for 25 years, working in the construction industry. He moved back to Iowa in 2007 to be near his family.

Al is survived by his mother, Joan Walton, and brother, Michael Walton, both of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Karla and husband Gary Phillips of Kennesaw, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; and an extended circle of family and friends. Also surviving are his sons, Arie and Dixon Walton of Aurora, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Walton; and the love of his life, Kim Walton.

 Al's love of construction began at an early age after receiving a wooden hammer and work bench for Christmas. He supervised residential and commercial building throughout the Southwest including stores for Walmart, Home Depot and I-Max Theaters and took great pride in his work. His final project was in Iowa supervising the addition of the Health Simulation Lab at Kirkwood Community College. He was an industrious worker, innovative, artistic, creative and a master carpenter.

   He enjoyed photography, riding his Harley, auto restoration, fishing, skiing and hunting with his beloved canine companion, Ardy, who will be lost without his master. His great sense of humor prevailed through great personal adversity and he will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones.

Memorial funds may be directed to the family for donation to Al's favorite charity, Canine Rescue.
