Peiffer, Dennis Henry
Dennis Henry Peiffer, 72, of Walford, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed John XXIII Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery. A rosary will be recited Friday at 6 p.m. at Blessed John XXIII Catholic Church, where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Tom (Joan) Peiffer of Walford; two daughters, Cindy (Randy) Majerus of Pleasant Hill and Cathy (Pete) Hamilton of Urbandale; nine grandchildren, Amy and Shawn Peiffer, Jacob, Nicole and Holly Majerus and Sydney, Quinn, Peyton and Noah Hamilton; brother, Leroy Peiffer of Arizona; three sisters, JoEllen Eakins of Keota, Betty (Doyle) Abrahamson of Minnesota and Darlene (Gary) Maricle of Missouri; and his beloved dog and companion, Penny.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Kathleen; sister-in-law, Sherrie Peiffer; and brother-in-law, Ray Eakins.
Dennis was born Dec. 21, 1938, in rural Keota, the son of Elmer and Luella (Greiner) Peiffer. He married Carolyn Sonka on Nov. 9, 1963, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Newhall. He worked at Highway Equipment as plant manager for 38 years.
Dennis was a member of Blessed John XXIII Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus No. 11942, Father Thomas J. Schwinn Council, MotorIoway Car Club, past Walford City Council member for over 25 years and owner/operator of Hwy 151 Carwash since 1982.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, family campouts and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis Peiffer Memorial Fund at Farmers Savings Bank, Walford.
