Manternach, Raymond F.
Raymond honorably served his country in the U.S. Army (Rank Tech-5) from 1941 to 1945, Company E-33rd Armed Regiment, Spearhead Division. He was in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He transported supplies into combat areas, in all types of terrain, night driving under blackout conditions. He was present at the liberation of Nordhausen Concentration Camp in Germany. He was an Army veteran, having served in World War II.
He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, the Cascade American Legion and the Cascade Knights of Columbus-Council #930.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Manternach of Cascade; his children, Karen of Newport, Ore., Nancy (Greg) Grant of Cedar Rapids, Diann Love of Marlton, N.J., Kathy Manternach of Cedar Rapids, Darlene (Roy) Doorenbos of Grinnell, Ray J. Manternach of Cascade, Liz (Peter) Lensen of Cascade, Tom (Cheri) Manternach of Cascade, and Bill Manternach of Boca Raton, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Manternach on July 25, 1977; and his siblings, Hilda, Ida, Cecelia, Al, Matt, Florian, Edwin and George.
