Harry E. "Ed" Wharton, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Private burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; sister-in-law, Joyce Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and David Reed; friend, John Hlavacek; beloved pet, Muffey; and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Roosevelt High School. Shortly thereafter, Ed entered the U.S. Air Force. He served his country during World War II, Korean conflict and Vietnam War, retiring as Lt. Colonel after 26 years of service. On Nov. 17, 1946, Ed was united in marriage to Donna Thompson.
