DONALD CASHMAN
Vinton
Donald Cashman, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at
Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 East Sixth St.), Vinton. Visitation: one hour before service time. Interment: Big Grove
Cemetery near Garrison.
A memorial fund has been established.
Don was born May 30, 1927, in Pilot Grove
Township near Williamsburg to Edgar and Rebecca Roberts Cashman. He
attended school in Vinton and graduated from
Lincoln High School with the class of 1946.
He was united in
marriage to Margaret
Kelley at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton on Sept. 14, 1947.
Don retired from Cherry-Burrell dairy
manufacturing in Cedar Rapids.
In his leisure he enjoyed camping and fishing,
especially time spent at
Yellow River Forest. He
also took great pride in raising flower and
vegetable gardens, horseback riding
and
tinkering
with engines with his son, Ron.
In addition to his wife,
he is survived by his daughter,
Julie Bramow of Vinton; grandchildren, Ray (Brandi) Varnum of Vinton, Katheena (Casey) Shannon of Cedar Rapids and Amelia Brewer of
Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Jaeden, James and Jonathan; his brother-in-law, John (Mardene) Kelley of Vinton; his sister-in-law, Irene Cashman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his
parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Ron; his grandson, Jacob Merck; his brother, Russell Cashman; and his sister, Rachel Fennern.
