Letter: Rights in conflict when flag is burned
Richard Boalbey
Dec. 18, 2016 12:00 am
I believe that flag burning is free speech. I also believe that people have a right to protect their flag. Therefore, when someone desecrates the flag, we have conflicting rights.
How many people are involved in the desecration of the flag? How many other ways could the protesters speak that would speak of their dissatisfaction?
How many people are involved in the honoring of our flag? How many other ways are there to honor our flag?
Are there other conflicts when our flag is desecrated? When we weigh one right against the other, which is the prevailing right?
